The residents of the tiny French village of Pierrelongue in Provence have cleverly combined religion with an aerobic fitness programme by building their church on a tall strange rock which towers above their houses. A fortress stood on the rock until 1789 when it was destroyed during the French revolution and the church was later built in its place. And if the idea of climbing up there to go to Sunday mass seems strenuous, imagine the effort involved in destroying the fortress and in building the church!!!
